Royston Turquoise is normally delicate and deep in the matrix so that when a cab is being formed, the lapidarist must anticipate where the Turquoise is flowing as the matrix is removed around it, much like uncovering fossils. For this reason, Royston is almost always backed by an epoxy material for stability since it's usually worked quite thin. However, this Royston cabochon has no need of backing and is among the first handful of stones I cabbed in 2021. This ring was made in 2022 and has been among my faithful Treasures since.
